Wedding Ring Finger
A wedding is the blessed event in which two different individuals get bound in an everlasting relationship with the nuptial knot. Without a wedding ring a marriage can not be completed. In few countries the couple wed each other only by exchanging their wedding rings. Exchanging of rings is must part of every wedding. The wedding ring signifies love, marital commitment and fidelity to each other.
Generally a wedding ring is worn in the left hand's ring finger that is the fourth finger from the thumb of the left hand. But in some countries like Norway, Poland, Germany, Russia and Bulgaria it is worn in the ring finger of right hand. In England during the 17th century, the thumb was used for wearing wedding ring.
Usually the wedding ring is worn in the ring finger of the left hand. It is believed that the left ring finger includes vein of love or vein of amoris. This vein of love starts from the heart and ends at the fourth finger of left hand. This is the reason why in some countries the wedding ring is placed on the fourth finger of left hand.
In the year 1686, the term vena amoris was first time used by Henry Swinburne. The couple symbolizes their underlying love for each other by wearing the wedding ring on the fourth left finger.
But in most of the other countries like Chile, India, Spain and Venezuela the wedding ring is worn on the right ring finger. The conventional Jews and Christians in the Eastern European countries also wear the ring on the right ring finger.
Also in Netherlands and Austria the catholic people wear the wedding ring in the right hand's fourth finger. Roman tradition involves wearing a wedding ring on the right ring finger. It is assumed that the right hand is a positive one and left hand is a negative one. It is totally depends on the customs and traditions that in which finger i.e. right or left finger the ring is worn.
