Wedding Ring

Nothing can be more romantic than the wedding ring quilts. Only for the special occasions these wedding ring quilts were made. The patterns of the wedding ring quilt are believed to have come from a very ancient design. The design made with interlocking of two rings is the concept of the fourth century. The main use of this wedding ring quilt is to ornate the roman cups.

In the gimmal ring you can see another type of interlocking rings design. These interlocked rings came in to the fashion since the 15th and 16th century in Europe. The first wedding ring quilt originates from the 19th century in the Shelburne museum. Until 1920's the double wedding ring patterns were used. This double wedding ring quilt is known as the Pincushion Quilt. This was used under several different names such as pickle dish, king tut, rainbow, endless chain, etc.

The ring pieces were stitched together in the early friendship knot pattern. And in the later world a fabric was applied on it. But after in the twentieth century women started to sew it together to make a quilt.
